September 2022-2023
Safe Return
Northern Valley remains committed to the health and safety of our school community.
These plans have been developed based on the recommendations put forth by the New Jersey Department of Education, New Jersey Department of Health, and CDC. Related documents can be found under the "More" tab in the top menu bar.
These plans are continuously being reassessed and refined based on the evolving landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic, the needs of our school community, and updated guidance from the state of New Jersey that better enables us to provide our students with an exemplary education while keeping them safe. Therefore, it is important to keep in mind that any aspect of this plan may change at any time.
2022-23 Bell Schedule
The 2022-23 school year will open with a the same rotate-and-drop bell schedule that was utilized in the prior school year.
All students will be expected to come into school every day, aside from exclusions such as testing positive for COVID-19.
Students and staff can make their own copy of the schedule matrix (pictured to the left) in Google Docs by clicking here when signed into their school Google Drive accounts.
Screening
Parents are asked to screen their children for symptoms of COVID-19 each morning before school. Staff are also asked to self-screen for symptoms of COVID-19 before school. Staff and students should stay home when they are feeling ill.
Parents will report positive cases of COVID-19 to the school nurse.
Staff will positive cases of COVID-19 to the school nurse and their supervisor.
For those individuals who test positive, regardless of vaccination status, and individuals with COVID-19 symptoms who have not been tested and do not have an alternative diagnosis from their healthcare provider, should stay at home for at least 5 full days after symptom onset or after the positive test. Individuals who have no symptoms, or symptoms are resolving after 5 days and are fever-free for 24 hours, can return to school and wear a mask for an additional 5 days.
Masking
While there is no mask mandate for the 2022-2023 school year, individuals are welcome to wear a mask when they see fit. Additionally, individuals recovering from positive cases of COVID-19 are expected to wear a mask on days 6-10 in accordance with CDC guidelines
Lunch
In order to maximize physical distancing during the lunch block, multiple spaces for eating lunch will be made available to students at the onset of the school year. This includes the cafeterias, gymnasiums, and outdoor spaces with tents and tables.
Additionally, both seniors and juniors will have privileges to leave campus for lunch during the lunch block.
Physical Distancing
Students and staff are asked to maintain at least three feet of physical distance from other individuals whenever indoors.
Virtual and Remote Learning
As there is no "remote learning option" in the 2022-23 school year, the use of virtual and remote learning will be limited to students who test positive for COVID-19.
In any of the aforementioned scenario, students will receive Zoom links from their teachers {after administrative approval and communication via attendance code such as remote instruction allowed (RIA)} in order to remotely connect to and "live stream" into their classes in real-time. Students who are excluded from school for the aforementioned reasons and who do not join their classes via Zoom will be marked absent. Please note, since virtual instruction is not occurring every day, there may be a one day delay before a Zoom link is able to be made available.
Virtual and remote learning via Zoom will not be used in the event of traditional student absences. This means that if a student is home sick, and does not qualify for administrative approval, he or she will be marked absent and must make up his or her work as instructed by his or her teachers.
COVID-19 Vaccinations
Parents/guardians of students who have been fully vaccinated are welcome to verify COVID-19 Vaccination status using the form in Genesis.
